BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Friday, 24 April — The Yonex Sunrise Brunei Open 2026 placed strong emphasis on youth development through the inclusion of Under-15 (U15) and Under-18 (U18) categories, further strengthening efforts to build a new generation of national badminton players.


Organized by the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association (PBKBD), the tournament serves as a key platform to identify and nurture young talent. It also aims to discover new players, prepare them for higher-level training, and enable them to represent the nation at international competitions.


In the U15 Boys’ Doubles category, the championship title was claimed by Muhammad Ahza Asyari bin Mohamad Saidun and Muhammad Wyidad bin Haji Hamidon. The runners-up were Lim Ren Jae and Lim Ren Jun, while third place was jointly awarded to Bryan Djap and Keio Lim Tien Yi, as well as Goh Haw Yeu and Goh Yeh Yeu.


For the U15 Girls’ Doubles, Aggie Wong Wen Yi and Shalene Lim Yu Han emerged as champions. The runners-up were Nur Dhia Hana Delisha binti Muhammad Hazim Zainul Arifin and Ranee Pong Xue Ching, while third place was shared by Noor Rayhanaa binti Mohd. Sofian and Nur Aisyah Alisha binti Khairul Anwar, alongside Joleigh Sam and Vanessa Voon.


In the U18 Boys’ Doubles, the title went to Bobby Feguson Chong @ Chong Choon Wenn and Muhd. Nur Febrian Nughoro Rosli. The runners-up were Muhammad Syarifudin bin Ermadena and Noor Masaerieel bin Thomas, while third place was jointly awarded to Goh Hiaw Yeu and Lim Ren Jae, and Muhd. Shahrul Badri bin Muhammad with Muhd. Syazri bin Sumardi.


The U18 Girls’ Doubles champions were Jaslene Lim Yu Qin and Sherreen Nyau Chai Yie. The runners-up were Najwa Adyarina binti Haji Amidon and Nur Eiffah Humaira binti Haji Amidon, while third place was shared by Diana Syazana binti Sumardi and Shalene Lim Yu Han, as well as Nur Aleesya binti Mohd. Baruddin and Ranee Pong Xue Ching.


In the Youth Open Men’s Doubles, the championship title was secured by Mohd. Aziz Asyraf bin Haji Kamis and Pengiran Abd. Halim Al Hakim bin Pengiran Haji Ismail. The runners-up were Ak. Azri Safwan bin Woo Shang Huei, while third place went to Amirul Hadi Sham and Mohd. Firdaus bin Mohammad Ali.


The National Open Women’s Doubles champions were Nuraqilah binti Haji Shahroney and Siti Marinah binti Mohd. Salleh. The runners-up were Leong Mei Fang and Noor Azura binti Mohd. Salleh, while third place was jointly awarded to Nurhidayatul Isma Isnon binti Ismail and Siti Nor Fatiha binti Haji Zaidin, alongside Pengiran Nuraniqah Zarifah binti Pengiran Sahminan and Pengiran Nurhaziqah Azmina binti Pengiran Sahminan.


In the National Open Mixed Doubles, the title was won by Ahmad bin Haji Abd. Razak and Nur Najmah Matshah. The runners-up were Mohd. Shahirul bin Mohd. Jenin and Siti Marinah binti Mohd. Salleh, while third place was shared by Mohd. Fairie Syah bin Ruslan and Noor Nekma Rainah binti Haji Rosley, as well as Daniel Fikri bin Mohd. Ali Nor and Nur Amirazarina binti Mohd. Amir Hidayatullah.


The National Open Men’s Singles champion was Dessen Chung Min Tin, with Muhd. Marhanif bin Mohd. Ali as runner-up. Third place was jointly awarded to Ahmad bin Haji Abd. Razak and Mattew Anak Minggat.


Finally, in the National Open Men’s Doubles, the championship title went to Mohammad Aziz Asyraf bin Haji Kamis and Muhd. Azizan Firdaus bin Ali Mustapha. The runners-up were Pengiran Abd. Halim Al Hakim bin Pengiran Haji Ismail and Pengiran Haji Muhammad Afi bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad, while third place was jointly awarded to Md. Shari bin Haji Lamat and Syafiq Abdullah.


Present as Guest of Honour and officiating the prize and medal presentation was Dr. Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.


The inclusion of U15 and U18 doubles events provided valuable opportunities for young athletes to gain structured competition exposure, bridging the gap between grassroots participation and pathways to elite performance.

The strong participation, particularly in junior categories, reflects the growing interest and engagement in badminton among Brunei’s youth.


PBKBD continues to position the Brunei Open as a strategic development platform, supporting long-term goals to produce competitive players for regional and international tournaments, including the SEA Games and other major events.


By focusing on youth, the Brunei Open 2026 underscores the nation’s commitment to sustainable sports development and future success at the international level.​
