KHIDMAT BAKTI NEGARA DIVISION
Program Khidmat Bakti Negara known as PKBN is an aspiration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in producing excellent, responsible and disciplined youth.
This program is bases on the concept of voulteerism, youth development and identity formation.
History of Establishment
A meeting between the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports was held on 1st March 2007 at the Officers' Mess, Royal Brunei Police Force chaired by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office. The council agreed that the proposed establishment of the Khidmat Bakti Negara Program (PKBN) would combine ideas from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports with the intention that the program would be formed with a 'holistic' nature, which includes aspects of spiritual and physical aspects.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has granted his consent to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to spearhead the implementation of the Khidmat Bakti Negara Program (PKBN) in this country. In this regard, a Taskforce Committee for the National Service Programme (PKBN) has been established to deliberate on the preparation of the Policy Paper for the National Service Programme (PKBN).
His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, by virtue of His Royal Letter, has consented for the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to implement a Pilot Project of the National Service Programme (PKBN) as an assessment prior to the full implementation of the actual National Service Programme (PKBN).
The Pilot Project of the National Service Programme (PKBN), covering the First through Fifth Intakes, was carried out at the Temporary Training Camp in the Sports Village, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, Berakas. The facility was able to accommodate up to 300 participants at one time. With the increasing number of trainees from year to year, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports developed a dedicated training complex specifically for the implementation of the National Service Programme. The complex was named the Permanent Training Camp of the National Service Programme (PKBN), situated in Kampong Batu Apoi, Temburong District, with the capacity to accommodate up to 700 participants at one time.
