TUTONG, Thursday, 2 April – The Launching Ceremony of the Recitation of the Holy Quran for the Majlis Khatam Al-Quran 80 Kali Khatam Ahli-ahli Majlis Perundingan Mukim dan Kampung (MPMK), Penuntut-penuntut Sekolah dan Institusi-institusi Pengajian Tinggi Seluruh Negara was held simultaneously this afternoon across all four districts. The event was organized in conjunction with the 80th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 2026.


The Majlis Khatam Al-Quran 80 Kali Khatam is held as an expression of gratitude by the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam to Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala for His blessings and mercy, which have ensured that the nation under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien remains peaceful and prosperous. The ceremony also serves as a collective prayer for His Majesty’s longevity, good health, and continued guidance and protection from Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.


In Tutong District, the ceremony took place at Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque, Pekan Tutong, with the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, attending as the guest of honour.


Also present were Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, heads of departments, district officers, members of the National Committee for the 80th Royal Birthday Celebration, penghulus of mukims, village heads, acting penghulus and acting village heads, MPMK members, district officers and staff, mosque affairs officers, mosque committee members, and local villagers.


The ceremony began with the congregational Asar prayer led by the mosque’s imam, Awang Sahibol Omar bin Haji Yussof. This was followed by the recitation of Al-Fatihah dan Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan, led by the Chief Imam, Awang Mohammad Waiz bin Tajuddin.


Subsequently, the collective recitation of the Holy Quran commenced from the first juz, participated in by members of the MPMK, students from schools and higher learning institutions, categorized into Adult Men, Adult Women, Youths, and Young Women (aged 13 to 20), representing various mukims and villages.


This also included students from Arabic schools, participants of the Youth and Children Quran Recitation Scheme (boys and girls aged 12 and below), representatives from religious schools, and children under the age of 10 from the Quran Completion Scheme, as well as students from schools under the Ministry of Education and higher learning institutions.
