Jerudong, Wednesday, 7 Ramadan 1447 / 25 February 2026 - The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), through the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), in collaboration with the Brunei and Muara District Office, Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), held the National Orphans' Donation Presentation Ceremony today at Dewan Dar-Al Intisar, Jerudong Sports Complex.
Present as co-guests of honour to present the donations were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
To bless the event, the ceremony commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, Surah An-Nisa, verses 36 to 42, by YM Awang Chik Akbar Hashemy @ Dimas Bin Ahmad Hilmi, followed by its translation by YM Awang Muhammad Azka Ajyad Bin Haji Mayadi. Both reciters are students from the Institute Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The event continued with the recitation of Doa Selamat and Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan led by YM Haji Mohd Zaidin bin Haji Mohd Noor, Mosque Affairs Officer, Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque, Sengkurong
The ceremony proceeded with the presentation of the Excellent Students Incentive Award Scheme, sponsored by BIBD. This year, a total of 12 orphaned students achieved outstanding results in 'O' Levels, Brunei Religious Higher Certificate (STPUB), Brunei Religious Education Certificate (SPUB) and Primary School Examination (PSR) in 2025 were honoured. The awards were presented by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman Minister of Home Affairs, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam.
The recipients were as follows:
Excellent Students for 'O' Level

The ceremony continued with the distribution of donation envelopes to 3,061 orphans registered under JAPEM, presented by the guests of honor.
The recipients comprised:
• 1,998 orphans from Brunei-Muara District
• 479 orphans from Tutong District
• 446 orphans from Belait District
• 138 orphans from Temburong District
The donations distributed were contributions from the JAPEM Orphans' Fund, the Brunei-Muara District Orphans' Fund, and BIBD. This year, the total amount donated through the JAPEM Orphans' Fund was BND306,100.00, while the Brunei-Muara District Orphans' Fund contributed BND61,200.00, and BIBD donated BND153,050.00.
The Secretariat of the Orphans' Fund warmly welcomes donations from members of the public to collectively provide financial assistance to orphans registered under the National Ophans Registration. Contributions may be channelled through the following methods:
• At the Management and Administration Division, Department of Community Development, Level 2, Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports building during office hours; or
• Through the Brunei Prihatin Short Message Service (SMS) platform for the Orphans Fund, which will operate for a period of nine (9) months from 12 February 2026 to 12 November 2026, by typing YATIM (without spacing) followed by the desired donation amount of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 50 or 100. For example, YATIM20 (for a donation of B$20) and sending it to 38111 for DST and Progresif subscribers, or to 39999 for Imagine subscribers; or
• Through BIBD Online or by depositing the donation into account number 0000-101-004-9034 under the account name “Tabung Anak-Anak Yatim".
Additionally, orphan registration counters will be open for two days on 25th February 2026, and 26th March 2026 at the Sports Hub, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

It is hoped that the contributions from the public will help the orphans in welcoming the month of Syawal, while at the same time attaining multiplied rewards in the blessed month of Ramadan and consequently seeking the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala.
Also, in attendance at the event were Yang Berhormat Awang Zainol bin Mohamed, a Member of the Legislative Council; Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District Affairs) of the Ministry of Home Affairs; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) of Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Acting District Officer of Brunei and Muara; Acting District Officers of Belait, Tutong and Temburong; the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam; senior government officers; Penghulu and Village Heads; representatives from BIBD; and the Acting Director of JAPEM as the Chairperson of the Ceremony.
