BERAKAS, Monday Isnin, 28 Syaaban 1447/16 February 2026 – The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) organized the Giant Artwork 42 project in conjunction with the 42nd National Day of Brunei Darussalam. The event was held at the Youth Hub, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas.

Previously known as Hashtag Negara Brunei Darussalam, the project has been implemented since 2019 and has become one of the key artistic decorations that enliven the National Day celebrations.

The officiating ceremony was graced by Yang Mulia Dr. Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsafelah, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at MCYS, who attended as the guest of honour.

This initiative represents a collaborative effort involving local artists, volunteers, government agencies, and the private sector. It serves as a manifestation of collective support and participation in fostering patriotism and strengthening love for the nation.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

  • To provide a collaborative platform for artists, government agencies, and the private sector to channel creativity through public art.
  • To elevate local art and talent as part of the identity of Brunei Darussalam’s National Day celebrations.
  • To raise public awareness of environmental sustainability through the use of recycled materials, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • To beautify public spaces and encourage community involvement in recreational and artistic appreciation activities.

This year, a total of 53 artists and volunteers participated directly in the project. In addition, 50 representatives from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), together with five officers, contributed their efforts in producing this large-scale artwork.

The project also received strong support from strategic partners, including Unified National Networks (UNN) Sdn Bhd, Thredz Brunei, AkzoNobel (Dulux paint brand), The Birdhouse Studio, and Low San Hardware. Their contributions encompassed expertise, materials, logistics, and creative involvement to ensure smooth implementation.

Beyond being a symbol of creativity and unity, Giant Artwork 42 reflects a shared commitment to instilling values of patriotism, solidarity, and environmental consciousness among the community. It is hoped that this initiative will continue to serve as a platform for community integration, further enriching the spirit of Brunei Darussalam’s National Day celebrations.
