Flag Raising Ceremony In Conjunction of the 42nd National Day Celebration of Brunei Darussalam

Bandar Seri Begawan, Saturday, 26 Syaaban 1447 / 14 February 2026 – The ceremony to raise the National Flag of Brunei Darussalam, marking the commencement of the 42nd National Day Celebration of Brunei Darussalam, Year 2026, was held at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, Bandar Seri Begawan.


Present as the Guest of Honour at the ceremony was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who is also Co-Chairman of the Executive Committee for the 42nd National Day Celebration of Brunei Darussalam, Year 2026.


Also in attendance were the Deputy Co-Chairmen of the Executive Committee for the 42nd National Day Celebration, Members of the Legislative Council, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, District Officers, members of the Executive Committee, and other committee members.


The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and the prayer “Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam” led by Yang Mulia Begawan Mudim Awang Haji Amran bin Haji Mohd Salleh.


The event then witnessed members of the Royal Brunei Navy and the Flag Bearer Contingent, comprising cadets from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Royal Brunei Police Force, Fire and Rescue Cadets, and alumni of the National Service Programme, marching in to hand over and receive the National Flag of Brunei Darussalam from the Guest of Honour.


The completion of the Flag Raising Ceremony was accompanied by the National Anthem of Brunei Darussalam, “Allah Peliharakan Sultan,” performed by a choir of 42 students from Berakas Secondary School and accompanied by the Royal Brunei Police Force Band.


The ceremony continued with the National Day Pledge, recited by 42 participants led by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Amir Shukri bin Haji Zawawi, Senior Counsellor Officer, Public Service Department, Prime Minister’s Office, followed by the proclamation of takbir “Allahu Akbar” three times, led by Yang Mulia Awangku Muhammad Abdul Qadir bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim, Imam Grade I, RPN Bukit Beruang Mosque, Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs.


The event was further enlivened with two patriotic songs, “Berkibarlah Bendera” and “Bersatu Mencapai Cita Negara,” accompanied by the waving of small flags by 142 students from Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Secondary School, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls’ Arabic Religious Secondary School, the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Federation, and the Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association.


At the end of the ceremony, medium-sized national flags and posters commemorating the 42nd National Day Celebration of Brunei Darussalam, Year 2026, were presented to District Officers from all four districts.


With the raising of the national flag, all citizens and residents of the country are called upon to join in hoisting the flag to further enliven the 42nd National Day Celebration of Brunei Darussalam, Year 2026, at their homes, offices, and business premises, as well as to install and light decorative lamps at government and private buildings beginning today, Saturday, 26 Syaaban 1447 / 14 February 2026, until Wednesday, 7 Ramadan 1447 / 25 February 2026.


Pengiran-Pengiran will hoist their personal flags, while individuals conferred with titles will hoist their respective flags, and the general public is required to hoist the National Flag of Brunei Darussalam.


Every flag hoisted must comply with the regulations and procedures set, ensuring that the flag is in good condition, with colours not faded and fabric not torn.
