Bandar Seri Begawan, Wednesday, 23 Syaaban 1446 / 11 February 2026 – The main event commemorating the 42nd National Day of Brunei Darussalam will be celebrated with "Majlis Kesyukuran Sembahyang Fardu Zohor Berjemaah, Membaca Surah Yasin dan Doa Kesyukuran", which will be held simultaneously at all mosques, suraus, and prayer halls across the nation.


A press conference on the preparations for the 42nd National Day Celebration was held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.


Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary (Community), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; together with Yang Mulia Dr. Awang Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education; and Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Religious Affairs, as Joint Secretaries of the Executive  Committee for the 42nd National Day Celebration, shared information regarding the main and side events as well as preparations for the commemoration.


During the press conference, the official logo selected for the 42nd National Day Celebration was also unveiled.


​In line with Brunei Darussalam’s principles as a nation that continually seeks the guidance and blessings of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta‘ala, several religious events will be held in conjunction with this year’s celebration, as in previous years. The main ceremony will differ from past years as it coincides with the month of Ramadan. The Thanksgiving Ceremony will take place, Insya-Allah, on Monday, 5 Ramadan 1447 / 23 February 2026, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Jame‘ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, Kampong Kiarong, as the central venue. The ceremony will be held simultaneously nationwide, with focal venues being Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in Belait District, Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong District, and Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Bangar, Temburong District.


Side Events


The distribution of small flags and the Flag Hoisting Programme will be held simultaneously across all four districts on Thursday, 24 Syaaban 1447 / 12 February 2026. 


The official flag-raising ceremony will take place on Saturday, 26 Syaaban​ 1447 / 14 February 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, Bandar Seri Begawan. 


A Special Supplication (Munajat Khas) will be held on Tuesday, 6 Ramadan 1447 / 24 February 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Bandar Seri Begawan. 


A Special Forum will be held on Wednesday, 7 Ramadan 1447 / 25 February 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. 


The lowering of the national flag will be conducted on Wednesday, 7 Ramadan 1447 / 25 February 2026, at 1:15 p.m. at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex.


In addition, a Mass Quran Recitation Ceremony of forty-two times will be held simultaneously across all districts on Monday, 19 Ramadan 1447 / 9 March 2026. The focal venues will be Jame‘ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque in Brunei and Muara District, RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque in Belait District, Pengiran Anak Haji Mohammed Alam Mosque in Tutong District, and RPN Kampong Rataie Mosque in Temburong District.


At the conclusion of the press conference, the Executive Committee for the 42nd National Day Celebration called upon citizens and residents to enliven the celebration by displaying the national flag at homes, offices, and business premises, and by lighting decorative lamps at government and private buildings from Saturday, 26 Syaaban 1447 / 14 February 2026 until Wednesday, 7 Ramadan 1447 / 25 February 2026. The public is also encouraged to attend the Thanksgiving Ceremony at mosques nationwide to express gratitude for independence and to strengthen patriotic spirit.


The press conference concluded with the presentation of an award to the logo design winner, Yang Mulia Awang Mohd Aizuddin bin Mohd Din, followed by the handing over of the official National Day posters to committee members, public relations officers of ministries and departments under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as media partners.
