BERAKAS, Tuesday, 27 January – A total of 21 members of the Negara Brunei Darussalam (NBD) contingent, comprising 12 athletes and nine officials including the Chef de Mission, Head of Secretariat, Safeguarding Officer, Physiotherapist, Coaches, and Assistant Coaches, have returned to Brunei Darussalam after participating in the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025 held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

 

Present at the Brunei International Airport to welcome and congratulate the contingent, and to present the congratulatory sashes was the Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pengiran Haji Mohd. Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, together with senior officers from the Department of Youth and Sports.

 

The NBD contingent achieved commendable success, securing one gold medal, three silver medals, and two bronze medals in tenpin bowling and athletics.

 

In tenpin bowling, Awang Kamarul Ariffin bin Haji Abd. Ghaffar won a gold medal in the TPB2 Singles event. He also partnered with Awang Saidin bin Awang Haji Damit to clinch a silver medal in the TPB2 + TPB2 Doubles event. Awang Saidin further contributed a bronze medal in the TPB2 Singles event.

 

Meanwhile, in athletics, Awang Haji Mohd. Rudy Izman bin Awang Haji Badar earned two silver medals in the Men's Shot Put F53 and F54 categories, while Dayang Nor Hensan binti Haji Mataha secured silver in the Women's Shot Put F11 event. Awang Alihan bin Muda added to the tally with a bronze medal in the Men's Javelin F34 Para Athletics event.

 

The contingent was led by Chef de Mission Awang Haji Ali Yusri bin Haji Abdul Ghafor.

 

Speaking on the achievements, the Chef de Mission expressed immense pride in the athletes' performance. He noted that one of the main challenges faced during the competition was that several other countries fielded younger athletes.

 

In light of this, he expressed hope that more young athletes from Brunei Darussalam will participate in future tournaments to continue building on the nation's sporting success.​
