BERAKAS, Wednesday, 24 Rejab 1447 / 14 January 2026. – Negara Brunei Darussalam will be sending a contingent to participate in the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, which will officially take place from 20 to 26 January 2026.
The Brunei Darussalam contingent comprises 21 members, consisting of 12 athletes and 9 officials, including the Chef de Mission, Head of Secretariat, Secretariat/Safeguarding Officer, Physiotherapist, Coaches, and Assistant Coaches.
In conjunction with this, the Flag Handing Ceremony for the Brunei Darussalam Contingent to the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025, Thailand, was held at the Simpur Room, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
Present to officiate the handing over of the national flag was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, as the guest of honour.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Nordin bin Haji Durahman, Trained Religious Teacher from the Welfare Home Complex, followed by a speech from the guest of honour. The event continued with the handing over of the Brunei Darussalam flag by the guest of honour to Yang Mulia Awang Haji Ali Yusri bin Haji Abdul Ghafor, Chef de Mission of the Brunei Darussalam Contingent to the 13th ASEAN Para Games 2025, Thailand. The ceremony also witnessed the pledge of commitment by the contingent, led by Yang Mulia Muhammad Danial Hakim bin Harjimmey. Before the ceremony concluded, Doa Selamat was recited by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Nordin bin Haji Durahman, followed by a group photo session with the guest of honour.
Also present at the ceremony were Yang Mulia Kittivudh Pinyowit, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Royal Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam; Yang Mulia Hajah Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Permanent Secretary (Culture) carrying out the duties of Permanent Secretary (Sports), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Yang Mulia Haji Mohamad Rosfazilah bin Haji Yusly, Acting Director of Youth and Sports; members of the National Athletes Selection and Evaluation Committee; representatives of National Sports Associations; and families of the athletes.
In this edition of the ASEAN Para Games, Brunei Darussalam will compete in 3 sports out of the 19 contested, namely Athletics, Tenpin Bowling, and Swimming.
Brunei Darussalam first participated in the ASEAN Para Games in 2001. To date, the nation has achieved a total of 40 gold medals, 44 silver medals, and 60 bronze medals. The country's best performance was in 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where it secured 9 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals. Brunei Darussalam last competed in the ASEAN Para Games in 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, winning 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.
The national contingent is scheduled to depart for Thailand on Friday, 16 January 2026.
