Jerudong, Saturday, 10 January – A total of 115 students received school assistance coupons from the Wives of Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, and Associate Members during a ceremony held at Rumah Dar Al-Intishar, Jerudong Sports Complex today.


The distribution of school assistance was an initiative by the Wives of Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, and Associate Members, in collaboration with the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), aimed at supporting children from recipient families as they begin their schooling.


The guest of honour at the ceremony was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, accompanied by Datin Hajah Nahriah binti Haji Awang Hasbi, who serves as the Second Chairperson of the Wives of Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, and Associate Members.


The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Community Development Officer Awang Abdul Ghani bin Murni, followed by the presentation of school assistance by the guest of honour. The ceremony concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat.


Also present at the ceremony were Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education; Dr. Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah, Acting Permanent Secretary (Community), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS); Dayang Fauziah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh, Acting Director of Community Development; as well as senior government officials from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education.


This initiative, which has been implemented since 2025, seeks to ease the financial burden of school preparations for the children involved. It also aims to encourage, inspire, and motivate them to continue excelling in their studies, thereby contributing to the improvement of their families’ lives.


In this regard, JAPEM welcomes the involvement of other stakeholders in organizing similar initiatives to foster and instill a spirit of care and compassion within the community of Brunei Darussalam.
