BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Tuesday, 04 Jamadilakhir 1447 / 25 November 2025 – His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen ibni Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, together with His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, graciously attended the National Flag Presentation Ceremony for the Brunei Darussalam contingent to the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 2025.
The National Flag Presentation Ceremony was officiated by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.
The arrival of Their Royal Highnesses at Dewan Digadong, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, was received by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Awang Haji Emran bin Haji Kunchang. This was followed by welcoming remarks delivered by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, then graciously delivered a Sabda Ucapan (royal address) and subsequently presented the national flag of Brunei Darussalam to Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim, Director of Youth and Sports, who will serve as Chef de Mission of the national contingent.
The SEA Games is among the most prestigious sporting events in the region, and this year it will be held in Bangkok, as well as in the provinces of Chonburi and Songkhla, Thailand, from 9 to 20 December 2025.
Adding further prestige to the Games is the participation of His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen and Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah, who will represent Brunei in polo, competing in both the Low Goal and High Goal categories.
Brunei Darussalam will be represented at the 33rd SEA Games by 135 members, including 65 athletes competing in 9 sports out of the 54 contested. These sports are Swimming, Weightlifting, Netball, Karate, Pencak Silat, Polo, Sepak Takraw, Taekwondo, and Wushu. Accompanying the athletes are officials and secretariat staff, who will not only ensure that the athletes' performance remains at the highest level but also safeguard their welfare throughout the Games.
At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the Brunei contingent successfully brought home 2 gold medals in Wushu, 1 silver medal in Pencak Silat, and 6 bronze medals across Karate, Pencak Silat, Wushu, and Badminton.
Also present at the ceremony were Yang Mulia Kittivudh Pinyowit, Chargé d'Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam; Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; members of the National Athlete Selection and Evaluation Committee; representatives of national sports associations; and parents of athletes.
His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen, together with His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, also graciously visited the National Welfare System (SKN) office. During a briefing by Yang Mulia Hajah Nor Ashikin Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary (Community), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the functions and objectives of SKN were explained, including its role as a platform for welfare assistance applications and its contribution to poverty alleviation efforts based on comprehensive data and information.
