BERAKAS, Friday, 18 Rabiulakhir 1447 / 10 October 2025 – A total of 46 sepak takraw teams are competing for the championship title in the TAIB Sepak Takraw Super League 2025, organized by the Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association (PESTABARU) in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Perbadanan TAIB as the league's main sponsor. The tournament commenced on 5 October and will run until 2 November 2025.
The official opening ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who served as the Guest of Honour.
The ceremony began with the parade of participating teams, followed by the playing of Brunei Darussalam's national anthem. This was succeeded by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and doa led by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Ahmad Yaardy bin Haji Abdul Karim, Analyst Officer at the Department of Youth and Sports. The event also featured the Athlete's Oath for the TAIB Sepak Takraw Super League 2025, delivered by Yang Mulia Abdul Hadi bin Metali, and the Technical Oath by Yang Mulia Ramlan bin Haji Mohd Said. The Guest of Honour was then introduced to the team captains before witnessing the opening match between the Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council A (MS PPDB A) and Muara Spurs B.
Subsequent matches will be held every Sunday at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Tutong Sports Complex, on 12 and 19 October 2025 for the First Round League. The Second Round League (Knockout System) and Quarter-Final matches will take place on 26 October 2025, also at the Tutong Sports Complex. The Semi-Final and Final matches will be held on 2 November 2025 at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, in conjunction with the Official Closing Ceremony and Prize Presentation.
Now in its third edition, the LSST Championship features two categories: The Premier League and the Amateur League. The Premier League will involve 14 teams, while the Amateur League will see participation from 32 teams.
The Premier League champion will receive a cash prize of BND5,000, a challenge trophy, a winner's trophy, and medals. The runner-up will be awarded BND3,000, a trophy, and medals. Joint third-place winners will each receive BND1,000, a trophy, and medals.
Meanwhile, the Amateur League champion will receive BND1,500, a trophy, and medals. The runner-up will be awarded BND1,000, a trophy, and medals. Joint third-place winners will each receive BND500, a trophy, and medals.
The primary objective of this championship is to identify new talent with the potential to be absorbed into athlete development programs, national team pipelines, and to promote public interest in sepak takraw. It also serves as a Whole of Nation Approach, encouraging various agencies to play their respective roles in guiding citizens toward a healthy lifestyle while revitalizing the traditional sport of sepak takraw, which has long been rooted in Brunei Darussalam.
The public is warmly invited to attend the matches and the Official Closing Ceremony and Prize Presentation on the specified dates to help enliven and support the TAIB Sepak Takraw Super League 2025. Admission is free.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports extends its deepest appreciation to PESTABARU and Perbadanan TAIB for their continued collaboration in organizing the TAIB Sepak Takraw Super League since 2023, and hopes that such partnerships will continue in the future to advance the sport of sepak takraw and youth development in Brunei Darussalam.
