Jerudong, Sunday, 21 September 2025 — September marks World Alzheimer's Month, an international campaign dedicated to raising awareness about dementia and challenging the stigma surrounding it. Each year, Alzheimer's and dementia associations, along with professionals involved in the treatment, care, and support of individuals living with dementia, unite globally to organise advocacy events, information-sharing initiatives, Memory Walks, and fundraising activities.

More than a hundred participants came together to walk for a cause that affects millions of families worldwide: Alzheimer's disease. The Memory Walk, co-organised by Demensia Brunei in collaboration with Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd and Jerudong Park Country Club Sdn Bhd, and supported by D'Sunlit Sdn Bhd, was held at Jerudong Park Colonade. The event aimed to raise awareness and provide support for individuals living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, as well as their caregivers.

The event was officiated by Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Hj Wahselfelah, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also in attendance were Haji Mohammad Munir Syafiq bin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Metassan, Deputy General Manager of Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd, and Hajah Siti Norzalena binti Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Raja Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Awang Abdul Rahman, General Manager of Jerudong Park Country Club Sdn Bhd, accompanied by their senior officers and members of the Senior Citizen Activity Centres from the Brunei-Muara, Tutong, and Temburong districts.

The Memory Walk seeks to raise awareness about dementia and Alzheimer's disease, highlighting their impact on individuals, families, and communities. It also aims to support those living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, along with their caregivers, while promoting efforts toward prevention, early detection, and timely diagnosis.

This event also serves as a call to action, reminding the public that dementia is not a normal part of ageing. Everyone is encouraged to take proactive steps to reduce their risk: stay physically active, eat a balanced diet, manage blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease, keep the mind engaged and mentally stimulated, and maintain strong social connections.
