Bandar Seri Begawan, Wednesday, 24 Rabiulawal 1447 / 17 September 2025 – Brunei Darussalam will participate in the 6th Borneo Games 2025, scheduled to take place in Kuching, Sarawak from 24 to 28 September 2025.
In conjunction with this, the Flag Handover Ceremony for the Brunei Darussalam Contingent to the 6th Borneo Games 2025 was held at Dewan Digadong, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The national flag was officially handed over by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who officiated the event as the guest of honour.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Yang Mulia Ustaz Haji Nuurmatiin bin Haji Abu Bakar, Religious Teacher Level II, who also delivered the Doa Selamat. This was followed by a speech from the guest of honour.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the national flag by the Minister to Yang Mulia Haji Mohamad Rosfazilah bin Haji Yusly, Acting Director of Youth and Sports, who will serve as the Chef de Mission for the Brunei Darussalam contingent. The ceremony concluded with a group photo session with the guest of honour.
Also in attendance were His Excellency Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam; members of the National Athlete Evaluation and Selection Committee; senior officials from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; representatives from national sports associations; and parents and guardians of the athletes.
The Brunei Darussalam contingent comprises 36 members, including 25 athletes, 5 coaches, and 6 officials, among them the Chef de Mission, Secretariat Head, Secretariat Officer, Liaison Officer, and Medical Staff.
This year, Brunei Darussalam will compete in five sports disciplines: Aquatics (Swimming), Badminton, Athletics, Lawn Bowls, and Tug of War.
The Borneo Games is a multi-sport event involving participants from regions and countries across Borneo. It was first held in 1955, with the most recent edition taking place in 2013 in the Federal Territory of Labuan.
During the 5th Borneo Games in Labuan, Brunei Darussalam competed in 11 sports disciplines, securing 7 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 18 bronze medals in events such as Lawn Bowls, Futsal, Gasing, Karatedo, Athletics, Swimming, Sepak Takraw, Silat, and Tug of War.
The national contingent is scheduled to depart for Kuching, Sarawak on Monday, 22 September 2025.
