Bandar Seri Begawan – The final round of the Brunei Darussalam National Oratory Competition in conjunction with the 2025 Language Month Celebration was held this morning at Balai Sarmayuda, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Berakas.
The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, who attended as Guest of Honour.
The ceremony commenced with the singing of the national anthem “Allah Peliharakan Sultan”, followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and prayers for the Sultan and the nation. A welcoming address was delivered by Yang Mulia Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka and Chairperson of the competition.
Five finalists presented their speeches after advancing from the preliminary round held on 14 June 2025. The event also featured a Malay language sketch by Yang Mulia Awang Mohd. Hairol bin Awang Haji Abdul Latiff, and commentary from Yang Mulia Mohammed Zefri Ariff bin Mohammed Zain Ariff, Lecturer at Universiti Brunei Darussalam and Chief Judge. Speeches were evaluated based on content, language technique, and delivery, with recommendations for future improvement.
The event concluded with the announcement of winners and the presentation of prizes and tokens of appreciation by the Guest of Honour.
