Bandar Seri Begawan, Thursday, 29 Zulhijjah 1446/29 Jun 2025 – In celebration of International Archives Day, celebrated on 9th June, Brunei Museums Department, through the National Archives of Brunei Darussalam has organized The Face of Brunei: Tracing Memories Exhibition. The official launching ceremony of the exhibition took place today, 26th June 2025, at Gallery 4, Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja.
With the theme “#ArchivesAreAccessible – Archives for Everyone", this exhibition highlights the importance of openness and inclusive access to archival information for all levels of society. It proves that the nation's documentary heritage is not only preserved but also shared and revived through narratives that are approachable and easily understood by current and future generations.
The event was officiated by the Guest of Honor, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Also present at the event were Excellencies, Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Brunei Darussalam, Members of the Legislative Council, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Senior Government Officers, Archivists and Records Managers from Government Departments, as well as officers and staff of Brunei Museums Department.
The launching ceremony began with a welcoming speech delivered by the event chairperson, Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Halus, Acting Director of Brunei Museums Department. In his speech, he emphasized the department's commitment to preserving historical memory and positioning archives as a wide accessible source of knowledge. The exhibition highlights Brunei Darussalam's socio-economic journey through valuable documents, photographs, and oral history recordings - serving as a bridge between the past and the future to foster heritage appreciation and strengthen national identity and pride.
The Face of Brunei: Tracing Memories Exhibition will be open to public for one month, from 26 June 2025 to 26 July 2025 at Gallery 4, Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja. In additional to the exhibition, several side activities will be held every Saturday throughout the exhibition period, such as to Get to Know the Face of Brunei Program. This program will provide insights into Brunei's socioeconomics through various prepared activities. A forum will also be held in July 2025, in conjunction with International Archives Day.
