– In an effort to preserve and strengthen the nation’s cultural heritage, the Brunei Museums
Department held the Cultural Dialogue Forum: Stories From Artefacts in conjunction with
International Museum Day 2025, as an intellectual and interactive platform that brings
together heritage experts, historians, artefact collectors, and the general public to share
knowledge and experiences related to the historical value of artefacts and their role in
reflecting the cultural identity of a nation. The forum was held at the Main Foyer, Malay
Technology Museum.
With the theme Cultural Dialogue: Stories From Artefacts, this forum serves as a significant
platform to strengthen the connection between museums and the community, and to instill a
shared sense of responsibility in preserving the nation’s heritage.
The Brunei Museums Department invited three panelists: Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Muhammad
Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong @ Kabun bin Melayong, Principle of Brunei History Center,
Yang Mulia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Rozan bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Museums Board
Member and Yang Mulia Awang Haji Azly bin Haji Tuah, Scientific Officer, Brunei Museums
Department.
The forum began with a welcoming speech by Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran
Haji Halus, Acting Director of Brunei Museums Department, who emphasized the importance
of artefact conservation and fostering a collective responsibility in preserving the nation’s
history and heritage.

Through this forum, various aspects were examined: from interpretation of collections,
effective storytelling approaches, to the role of society in preserving shared heritage and
further strengthening the Museum’s role as not merely an institution for storing artefacts, but
one that brings to life the meaning behind each artefact.
The Guest of Honor for the forum was Yang Mulia Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah,
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture), Ministry Culture, Youth and Sports.
