Bandar Seri Begawan, Isnin, 28 Zulkaedah 1446 / 26 Mei 2025 - The Executive Committee Meeting for the National Family Day Celebration convened its first meeting today to discuss the preparations for the 13th National Family Day (NFD) celebration. The meeting took place at the Conference Room, Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

The meeting was co-chaired by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs; and Yang Mulia Awang Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan, Permanent Secretary (Municipal and District Affairs), Ministry of Home Affairs.

In her welcoming remarks, Co-Chairperson Dayang Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, stated that this year’s National Family Day (NFD) continues to be celebrated as a national commitment to supporting social development towards building a sustainable and prosperous society. The celebration of NFD aims to nurture and enhance public awareness of the importance of strengthening the family institution as a fundamental pillar in shaping a nation’s identity, values, and future aspirations. This is because family development is also a vital component in achieving Brunei Vision 2035, which aspires to make Negara Brunei Darussalam a nation with one of the best qualities of life in the world on par with developed countries by focusing on the well-being of all its citizens.

She also shared that the theme of this year’s NFD, which is observed annually on the first Sunday of May, is “My Family, My Hope”, while the focus of the celebration is “Instilling the Core Values of Bruneian Family Life: Love and Affection; Responsibility; Mutual Respect; and Care” (Bruneian Family Core Values: "One HaraPan”). The celebration of NFD aligns with global aspirations through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is also in line with the Social Blueprint of Brunei Darussalam, particularly Aspiration 2: Empowering Loving, Strong, and Resilient Families. These goals and aspirations are further implemented through various action plans under the National Council on Social Issues, including the Family Institution Action Plan. It was also shared that the Family Institution Action Plan for 2025–2029 has been granted by His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam following the 2nd National Council on Social Issues Meeting of 2024, and will be launched this year as one of the key initiatives in conjunction with this year’s NFD.

In addition, she shared that this year’s NFD was held on Sunday, 4th May 2025. The event commenced with a Majlis Kesyukuran held on 3rd May 2025. A series of events in conjunction with NFD are also actively being carried out throughout the month by various stakeholders.

She expressed hope that with the support of a family-oriented national policy, along with the theme and focus of NFD, efforts to empower the family institution socially, economically, and spiritually will continue to be strengthened to ensure that family well-being remains central to the nation’s sustainable development planning.

She further encouraged all government agencies to organise at least one (1) activity or initiative in conjunction with this year’s National Family Day celebration and in the years to come, and for each agency to share details of these activities or initiatives with the Prime Minister’s Office.

She also expressed hope that all parties will work hand in hand and continue to collaborate in providing cohesive commitment, especially in driving the events of National Family Day towards achieving the shared goal of family harmony and national development.

Also in attendance were other members of the Executive Committee comprising heads of departments, senior government officials, representatives from the private sector, and non-governmental organizations.
