Malay Technology Museum, Monday, 21 Zulkaedah 1446/19 May 2025 – In conjunction with the annual International Museum Day celebrated on 18th May, the Brunei Museums Department, through Ethnography Department, is organizing an exhibition entitled Traces of Time Exhibition: Stories from Artefacts. The launching ceremony of the exhibition is held today, 19th May 2025 at Main Foyer, Malay Technology Museum.

 

The exhibition features the participation of seven individual collectors, each showcasing artefacts based on the themes of their respective collections. This initiative serves as a tribute to their dedicated efforts in preserving valuable artefacts that reflect Brunei's national identity and cultural heritage.

 

Aligned with this year's International Museum Day theme, The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities, this exhibition aims to raise public awareness on the historical significance of private collections, while encouraging a shared responsibility in safeguarding heritage for future generation.

 

The event is officiated by the Guest of Honor, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also present at the events were Yang Berhormat Members of the Legislative Council, Excellencies, Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Brunei Darussalam, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Members of the Museum Board, Heads of Departments, as well as officers and staff of Brunei Museums Department.

 

The launching ceremony began with a welcoming speech delivered by the event chairperson, Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Halus, Acting Director of Brunei Museums Department. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of strengthening the public's awareness of the historical value of personal collections, as well as to foster a sense of responsibility to preserve heritage so that it can be shared with and inherited by future generations.

 

Traces of Time Exhibition: Stories from Artefacts will be open to public for three months at Malay Technology Musuem. In addition to the exhibition, several side activities such as Bicara Budaya Forum and the Muziumku Warisanku Programme. The Bicara Budaya Forum will be held on Thursday, 29th May 2025, at Malat Technology Museum. This forum will provide a platform for collectors to share their experiences, while one of the Conservation Officers from the Conservation and Restoration Department, Brunei Museums Department, will discuss artefact conservation and restoration practices.
