BERAKAS, Sunday, 02 Rabiulakhir 1446H/06 October 2024 – In celebration of the 57th ASEAN Day, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Embassies and High Commissions of ASEAN countries, organized the ASEAN Sports Day 2024 at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex today.
The ASEAN Sports Day is a commitment by all ASEAN member countries, established during the Senior Official Meeting on Sports (SOMS) held in November 2018 in Myanmar.
It is celebrated every August 8th with the aim of strengthening friendships and fostering unity, understanding, and cooperation among the ASEAN community.
The guest of honor at the event was the Honorable Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Also in attendance were Ambassadors and High Commissioners from ASEAN countries; Permanent Secretaries from the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as district officers.
The event began with aerobics, followed by a 3.2-kilometer walkathon, which was also joined by the guest of honor.
Among the activities featured at the ASEAN Sports Day were netball matches, futsal matches, exhibitions, and demonstrations of traditional games and foods from ASEAN countries. The event concluded with an award ceremony for the netball and futsal matches.
Traditional games from ASEAN countries included Carah Kaki Tiga and Pasang from Brunei Darussalam, Monkey Grab Leaves from Cambodia, Congkak from Malaysia, and Patintero from the Philippines.
Three teams participated in the futsal matches: Team KKBS, Team KHELN, and Team Diplomatic Missions.
Participation in the event is open to the public, including the ASEAN community, free of charge.
This year's ASEAN Sports Day is the third time it has been held and the second time it has taken place at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, Berakas.
