BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sunday, November 5th. - The Ministry of Education through the Department of Special Education in collaboration with SMARTER Brunei held the 'Anak Adalah Anugerah (Child is a Reward)' Charity Run in conjunction of World Autism Awareness Day, 2023 at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien, in the capital.


This charity run was held to commemorate the World Autism Awareness Day this year which carries the theme ‘Transforming the narrative: Contributions at home, at work, in the arts and in policymaking’ on a large scale while raising awareness to the public about individuals and students with autism at the same time.


In addition, the run also aims to collect funds that will be channeled to SMARTER Brunei, Tabung IKHLAS and Tabung Pendidikan Khas


​The race is divided into five categories, namely Men's Open 5km (km), Women's Open 5km, Male Special Needs 3km, Woman's Special Needs 3km and Walking/Running/Wheelchair 1.5km for publics and students with special needs.


Present as the Guest of Honor and proceeded to flag off the race for Open Women Category was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports​.​


Also in in attendance, the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, flagged off​ the race for Open Men's category.


Also present at the event were the Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanents, heads of departments, senior officials and officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.


Hulubalang Asgar Awang Abd Malik bin Awang Hidup and Noorhanisah binti Haji Abd Ghani respectively were named winner for the Men's Open and Women's Open​ categories; Ruzaini bin Mahadi and Tho Siaw Khim took the second place; while Muhammad Fathurrahman bin Haji Zulkifli and Hafizatol Hamiroldzam won the third place.


Meanwhile, Md Rasuli @ Muhammad Risqie bin Rosli and Sarah Nursyifa binti Ashrul Faizal were named winner for the Men's and Women's Special Needs Students category; Mohd Adran Shah bin Mohd. Azrie and Syahindah binti Abdul Rahim took the second place; while Muhammad Sahrazeen bin Samat and Safirah binti Affendi won the third place.


During the charity run, participants and the public also participated in a variety of activities including treasure hunt games, puzzle games, face painting, soccer, bowling games, and Zumba in an effort to raise public awareness of the various learning needs in schools.
