Bandar Seri Begawan, Sunday, 14 Rabiulakhir 1445 / 29 October 2023 – In celebration of the 56th ASEAN Day, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports in collaboration with the ASEAN Embassies in Brunei Darussalam had organized the ASEAN Sports Day 2023 which took place at Taman Haji Sir Omar 'Ali Saifuddien, Bandar Seri Begawan.
This was the second time the ASEAN Sports Day was held, after 2019 at the Multipurpose Hall, Berakas Sports Complex.
Present as the Guest of Honor was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development as acting Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Also present at the ASEAN Sports Day 2023 were Ambassadors and High Commissioners from ASEAN countries, Permanent Secretaries, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, and senior officials from the Ministries in Brunei Darussalam.
The event commenced with a warm-up session and followed by a walkathon. The event also featured exhibitions on traditional games from ASEAN member countries. Participation was open to the public for free.
The ASEAN Sports Day 2023 is a commitment made by all ASEAN member countries, as agreed during the Senior Official Meeting on Sports (SOMS) held in November 2018 in Myanmar.
The ASEAN Sports Day is celebrated every 8 August with the aim of strengthening friendship and fostering unity, understanding, and cooperation among the ASEAN community.
