Bandar Seri Begawan, Tuesday, 9 September 2025 — The Brunei History Centre, through its Library and Learning Division, has successfully launched its first-ever Library Mini Carnival: Symposium and Exhibition, themed “Preserving Historical Treasures, Cultivating Future Knowledge.” This initiative marks a significant effort by the Centre to promote and highlight the role of libraries in supporting education, research, and innovation, with the aim of cultivating literary engagement among the youth and future generations​.


The Opening Ceremony of the Library Mini Carnival: Symposium and Exhibition was held this morning at the Dewan Jawatan Dalam, Brunei History Centre, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Jalan James Pearce, Bandar Seri Begawan.


In his welcoming remarks, Yang Mulia Awang Mohammad Faisal bin Haji Mat Salleh, Acting Deputy Principal of the Brunei History Centre, emphasized that this mini carnival is a pioneering initiative by the Library and Learning Division. He described it as a meaningful endeavor to recognize and elevate the library’s role as a hub for research, a repository of national heritage, and a vital source of knowledge for current and future generations.


The event was officiated by Yang Mulia Dr. Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfellah, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), who attended as the Guest of Honour.


Also present was Yang Mulia Dr. Awang Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong, Principal of the Brunei History Centre, who delivered the keynote address. He elaborated on the theme “Preserving Historical Treasures: Cultivating Future Knowledge,” highlighting the importance of systematically and scientifically managing the nation's historical collections. He stressed that preserving historical treasures ensures the continuity of national identity, provides authentic references for academic research, and contributes to global knowledge. Furthermore, historical preservation plays a crucial role in national development, serving as a foundation for public policy and legislative formulation.


The concept of “Cultivating Future Knowledge” underscores the need to utilize preserved history not merely as a nostalgic reflection of the past, but as a strategic resource to shape the nation’s future direction.


The Library of the Brunei History Centre is a specialized institution dedicated to the storage, preservation, and dissemination of historical information pertaining to the nation. Its establishment supports the collection of historical data and valuable research resources on Brunei’s heritage.
