BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Saturday, 17 Syawal 1445/27 April 2024 - This morning's event is the Inauguration Ceremony of the "Historic Island Borneo" Project with the theme "History Strengthens Seborneo Relations". For the first time a project of this kind can be organized by the Brunei History Center (PSB) through the Borneo Study Center (penBorneo). This project is one of PSB's initiatives through penBorneo to share the results of the study and research of Brunei Darussalam's historical materials; the history of the Sultanate of Brunei; and also the history of Borneo.

 

This project is also one of the efforts to document the results of the study and research of the historical materials of Brunei, the Sultanate of Brunei and the history of Borneo in the form of working paper series of lectures and exhibitions presented by the Borneo people from the beginning of its establishment until now. The results of this study and research are important to be shared with the general public in the environment of the island of Borneo, especially the people and residents of this region [Brunei Darussalam, Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan]. The studies and research that have been carried out are expected to be able to provide knowledge about the history and background of the existence of the Borneo archipelago.

 

Among the objectives of this "Historic Island Borneo" Project is to rekindle the celebration of Brunei Darussalam's 40th National Day in 2024. In addition, this project is also implemented to support PSB as a Center of Excellence for History and the Sultanate of Brunei. It is also hoped that it will be able to help strengthen friendship and mutual respect between the three countries namely Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) and Indonesia (Kalimantan).

 

Important events that will take place this morning will also be the Launching Ceremony of the Borneo Image Gallery and Books From the Borneo Window: Collection of Working Papers (Series I) of the Borneo Research Center (penBORNEO). The Guest of Honor for this event is Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. While the side event is the Borneo History Lecture Session 12th Series. The 12th series of Borneo History Lectures consists of four sessions, three of which will be held today, which is Saturday, 17 Syawal 1445, equivalent to April 27, 2024, while the fourth session will take place on the morning of Sunday, 18 Syawal 1445, equivalent to 28 April 2024. This lecture session will be delivered by four invited speakers namely 1). Professor Dr. Ooi Keat Gin; 2). Ambrose Nathan; 3). Dato H. M. Natsir S. Sos., M; and 4). Mrs. Hajah Hamidah Salim, S. Pd., M. Si.

 

It is hoped that programs like this will be able to inform not only the local community but also the community in the region about the background of our country's history. A project like this is also expected to be able to promote national history and cultural heritage of national treasures, especially Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) and Indonesia (Kalimantan). As we all know that once upon a time we have a close historical bond with the countries concerned.

 

For the information and knowledge of the public that this 'Historic Island Borneo' Project will be held for two days which is on 17 and 18 Syawal 1445 corresponding to 27 and 28 April 2024. The public is welcome to attend to participate in making the activity a success -activities provided throughout the program.
