KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 26 April 2024  – The Commonwealth Asia Regional Youth Leadership Summit and Senior Official Meeting, held on 22nd to 25th April 2024 in Kuala Lumur, Malaysia was attended by Yang Mulia Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin, Permanent Secretary (Youth), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, together with other Commonwealth Senior Officials responsible for youth development and their representatives. The Summit is an initiative of the Commonwealth Secretariat, British Council, and the Commonwealth Youth Council.


 

The Commonwealth Asia Senior Officials Meeting, which was chaired by Dr Muhammad Ali Malik, Deputy Secretary, Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP), Prime Minister's Office, Government of Pakistan convene in parallel with Commonwealth Asia Regional Youth Leaders' Summit. The objective of the meeting was to review the progress in the Asia region on the 10th Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting (10th CYMM) Ministerial Statement, the Marlborough House Declaration and giving the Senior Officials opportunities to engage with the young leaders and note the establishment of the Asia Regional Youth Platform that has been agreed by the Youth Ministers during the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting in September 2023.

 

During the meeting, The Senior Officials adopted the Chaiperson's Statement and reaffirmed their collective commitment to uphold the objectives outlined in the CYMM Ministerial Statement and the Marlborough House Declarations and agreed on the priorities to further advance youth development on the region through coordination and implementation at national level as well as  knowledge and people to people exchange and collaborations among member countries.


The meeting also noted the outcome of The Commonwealth Asia Regional Youth Leadership Summit  on the establishment of the Commonwealth Asia Youth Alliance (CAYA) that aims  to empower youth in the region and provide platform for youth leaders from the Asia Region to network, to discuss emerging youth development issues; collaborate and submit recommendation for the consideration of the Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

 

Accompanying Yang Mulia Haji Zakaria bin Haji Serudin were Yang Mulia Zainab binti Haji Morshidi, Director of Youth and Sports Development, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, officials of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei Darussalam and three (3) national youth delegates and one (1) youth leader from Brunei National Youth Council.
