TUNGKU LINK – The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education as co-organiser today held a Special Forum for the 42nd National Day Celebration of Brunei Darussalam 2026 at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.


Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education.


Also present at the special forum was Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in their capacity as Co-Chair of the Executive Committee for the 42nd National Day Celebration of Brunei Darussalam, 2026.


Among the objectives of the special forum is to instill aspirations of independence, ensuring the present generation to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of national sovereignty. In additon, the special forum emphasises on Wawasan 2035 by highlighting the nation's economic, social, and spiritual development journey, while empowering the younger generation to cultivate a spirit of patriotism and appreciation for the progress that has been achieved.


The special forum commenced with the singing of the National Anthem, 'Allah Peliharakan Sultan', followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Yang Mulia Awang Abdul Muhaimin bin Dr Haji Serbini, Mosque Affairs Officer, Masjid Universiti, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.


The event then continued with a special video clip featuring exclusive interviews with national leaders and historians on the nation's journey towards independence, as well as their experiences in witnessing the country's development since 1984.


The highlight of the event was the Special Forum Panel Session moderated by Yang Mulia Dr. Awang Haji Mohammad Shahrol Azmi bin Haji Abdul Muluk, Assistant Ra'es III (Student Affairs and Alumni), Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), Ministry of Religious Affairs. 

 

The special forum featured four (4) panellists comprising senior officers and academics in fields related to the economy, education and social development to discuss the nation's direction in the context of post-independence development as well as the future aspirations of Brunei Darussalam. The panellists were:


i. Yang Mulia Dayang Noor Dina Zharina binti Haji Yahya, Acting Director of the Energy Policy and Strategy Division, Department of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office;

ii. Yang Mulia Dayangku Norhanidah binti Pengiran Haji Masshor, Acting Director of the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, Ministry of Finance and Economy;

iii. Yang Mulia Dayang Dr. Dayang Hajah Ummi Fa'izah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Assistant Professor, Centre for Promotion of Knowledge and Language, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Ministry of Education;

iv. Yang Mulia Ustaz Awang Muhammad Yussof bin Haji Abdul Majid, Special Duties Officer Grade II, Department of Syariah Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs

 

The ceremony also witnessed a poetry recitation performance by Yang Mulia Awang Muhammad Firdaus bin Awang Abdul Sani, a Master of Teaching student at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The poem, titled “Lewat Gerbang Kemerdekaan" (Through the Gates of Independence), is a literary work composed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs.


Also in attendance at the event were Deputy Ministers from the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Religious Affairs; Permanent Secretaries from the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; Vice Chancellors and Rector; Deputy Permanent Secretaries from the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; youth representatives from government agencies and youth associations; students from public and private higher education institutions; as well as students from secondary schools and sixth form centres.​
